We are aspiring student journalists utilizing our skills to create a newspaper for the student body. The Ellensburg High School Alutant student news-magazine has been in production every year since 1971, chronicling the experiences of the students and faculty at EHS and providing an opportunity for young journalists to develop their skills in writing, graphic design, photography, communication, and initiative.

We produce a new issue of the Alutant each month. Students control the process entirely, from interviewing and photographing to editing and laying out each page with Adobe InDesign.

Journalism Class

The best way to learn the art of journalism is to join the class itself! In class, you will learn hands-on skills about writing in AP-style, interviewing with confidence, taking quality and informative photos, and graphic designing with aesthetics and readability in mind. Sign up for journalism if you are looking for a class that can provide an English or CTE credit!

Freelancing Program

Any EHS student can write for the Alutant! Besides being a class, we are also an official ASB club and we are always looking for students who want to contribute their writing, photography, and graphic design skills to the Alutant. Are you a business or community member who would like to connect with the 900+ students at EHS? Then consider advertising in the Alutant!

Subscriptions: Starting next year, the Alutant will offer a mailing subscription service. For a cost of $10 per year, we will add you to our mailing list and send a copy of the Alutant to your doorstep every month. Contact alutant@esd401.org for more information.
